Breast cancer awareness race gains new supporter

Local business Pink and Pouty Makeup and Hair studio is supporting the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure on Saturday, Oct. 24.

Shannon Taylor, studio owner, said her aunt was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2013.

“My passion to work with women diagnosed with breast cancer solely came from my observation of their coming out of chemotherapy and talking to them, trying to understand what they could possibly be going through,” Taylor stated on the Pink and Pouty website.

This year marks the 19th annual Race for the Cure, during which 5.3 million dollars has been invested in the New Orleans community. An estimated 14,000 people will be participating on Saturday. The race’s goal is to achieve $250,000, and as of Wednesday, Oct. 21, $152,000 has been raised. The race will start at 7 a.m. in City Park.
