Construction takes over the Fly

New Orleans residents may have to say goodbye to their favorite picnic spot since construction plans have been made to take over the river-side green space known as the Fly.

The Carrolton Boosters, a nonprofit youth sports club, plans to build a sporting complex on the property after they raised $3.8 million to fund the construction.

Even though Councilwoman Susan Guidry said the Boosters have a legal right to authorize the building, protesters argued against the development in the Community Development Meeting at City Hall on Feb. 17.

Construction is slated to begin sometime this spring.
