Golf teams finish strong in season opener

Today Loyola’s men’s and women’s golf teams closed out their first tournament of the season with strong individual and team finishes at the Invite at Innisbrook held in Palm Harbor, Florida. 

On day one, Junior Emma Smithers and senior Madison Bates played two rounds and placed second and third respectively on the women’s individual leaderboard. Trey Ponce led the men’s team, tying for 27th with a total score of 148 (+6). 

Following the third round on day two, Bates held her place, shooting 226 (+7) and finishing third overall. Smithers shot a 233 (+14) for a 9th place individual finish. Ponce finished 17th with a total of 219 (+6).

The women’s team tied with Southeastern for third at the end of the tournament, with a score of 945 (+69). The men’s team  placed 20th overall. 

Up next, the Wolf Pack will compete at the Martin Methodist Invite in Athens, Alabama on Oct. 4-6.
