Honors thesis presentations start today
This year’s honors independent project presentations will be held in the Monroe Library multi-media room No. 2 today and tomorrow. Students who are enrolled in the Honors program participate in an original undergraduate research or creative project of their choice. Faculty sponsors provide guidance for their projects throughout their junior and senior years. The project’s written portions will be kept in an electronic archive in the University Library. There is also a public presentation of their work at the Academic Festival that is held every spring.
This spring the Academic Festival consists of numerous unique projects. These include: Thomas Hallinan’s “Jungian Personality Types and Spirituality Correlates in Undergraduate College Students,” sponsored by Elizabeth Hammer, associate professor of psychology, and Janet Matthews, professor of psychology and Margaret R. Allison’s “The Effects of UV-B Radiation on Iris Hexagona,” sponsored by Paul Barnes, professor of biological sciences.
In their four undergraduate years, honors students take 27 credit hours of honors courses. These courses replace the common curriculum requirements. The honors curriculum includes behavioral and social sciences, English, fine arts, history, mathematics, natural sciences, philosophy and religious studies.

Local menus available online
You can get rid of your old takeout menus and refrigerator magnets. Tulane alumnus Scott Himmel has put together a Web site to hold all your important restaurant information.
Campusmenus.com was created so “students and faculty have an assortment of restaurant menus, food discounts and bar promotions at their fingertips,” said Himmel in a press release. Students can refer to the Web site before choosing which restaurant to get takeout from, dine at or which bar to go to.
The Web site lists a number of Uptown restaurants, their hours and if they deliver. Participating restaurants include Fresco Café, Mona’s Café, Italian Pie, Mikimoto and Basil Leaf. In addition, there are printable coupons on the Web site that offer specials such as a medium cheese pizza for $1.99 at Pepperoni’s Café. They even have a list of happy hour specials at some popular Uptown bars, including Friar Tuck’s, Bruno’s and Balcony Bar and Café.
