Even though La Divina caused a fire in the Carrollton Hall laundry room two weeks ago, they are still the best place to get food on campus.
When La Divina employees tried to wash towels in the Carrollton laundry room, cooking oil residue left on some towels caused the dryers to smoke. It was after 2 a.m., and everyone in the building was evacuated. As the new food chain on campus, the fire may not have made the best impression. The actions they took, however, more than made up for it.
We at The Maroon, would like to express our gratitude toward La Divina. Rather than merely saying sorry, they stepped up and treated Carrollton Hall residents to pizza and gelato. But the employees weren’t serving the food–the owners were. Simple actions like that reveal a lot.
They demonstrated responsibility and integrity, two qualities not everyone possesses. More businesses like La Divina should be on campus because they are friendly, respectable and the food is good.
It is apparent that La Divina makes an effort to connect to the Loyola community. On Fridays and Saturdays, it is the only place to get food on campus after midnight. They even reach out to students by offering activities like Italian movie nights on Tuesdays.
It would be a great idea for the university to include more third-party business like La Divina, especially after the Danna Center is rebuilt. Students need more vendors like them.
