Students interested in a more exotic study abroad location than what has been offered in the past should check out Loyola’s new study abroad program in the Bahamas this summer, from July 1 to August 1. Those who attend will have the opportunity to earn six credit hours, while living on campus at the College of the Bahamas. Among the courses offered are Encountering the Caribbean, which can be used for common curriculum behavioral/social science credit; Ethnographic Methods, a sociology course; and a seminar on Caribbean society, history and culture. The classes will be based around readings, guest lectures and field trips. Students will participate in daily field work, while studying the Bahamian culture in depth.
The cost for the program is $3,500, which covers the course fees, airfare, a walking tour of Nassau, a visit to the National Art Gallery and lodging but not meals.
Students will live in apartment-style residences with fully-equipped kitchens. The program is still awaiting final approval, and deposits will not be collected until then. – Andre Breaux
