Loyola University Dean of Admissions Debbie Stieffel has resigned.
After 22 years working at Loyola, Stieffel has accepted a position with Susquehanna University in Pennsylvania as their Vice President for Enrollment Management.
“It was a very difficult decision to make,” said Stieffel. “A lot of the decision is based on difficulties in living in the city.” Stieffel said although she loves Loyola, she is unhappy living in New Orleans.
Stieffel said she does not think her decision will adversely affect Loyola’s incoming class. She said this is the time of year when people make decisions to leave.
“I think things will run just fine, in terms of our class for this year,” she said. She said that the Admissions Office has a strong staff, and the only things that could affect this class size would be events like another major hurricane or an increase in the crime rate.
Stieffel is the fourth university administrator to resign this semester. She earned both her undergraduate and her master’s degrees at Loyola.
