Tulane University has expanded its shuttle services, and Loyola faculty, staff and students can take advantage.
According to Brian Lowe, manager of Shuttles and Transportation at Tulane, this collaborative agreement between the two universities has been in effect for several years.
“The purpose of the shuttles is to provide riders without transportation at both Tulane and Loyola to go shopping at local food markets and malls or attend entertainment venues off campus,” Lowe said. “We want our riders to have a link between both campuses.”
According to Lowe, Tulane offers six shuttle routes. All shuttle routes vary in destination, but most run Monday through Friday, with the exception of the entertainment line, which only runs on Saturdays.
The six shuttle routes take riders to and from a variety of places such as Lakeside and Clearview malls, Wal-Mart and Whole Foods Market, Tulane-owned apartments, and between Tulane’s main campus and its Health Sciences Center.
“I only knew about Loyola’s shuttles. Now that I know, I can ride the shuttles, because I’m not familiar with streets in New Orleans,” said Beth Rowland, general studies freshman.
To ensure safety, all shuttle drivers are Tulane employees and required to obtain their commercial driver’s license. In addition, the shuttles are all equipped with GPS. Riders can go to the shuttle website and track where the shuttles are located, as it updates every 20 seconds.
