Five robberies, a carjacking and a theft occurred in the university area during the past three weeks. A laptop was stolen from Monroe Library on March 26 around 10:30 p.m. The owner left to take a break for about 30 minutes, and his laptop was gone when he returned.
ROBBERIES
A fast food restaurant was robbed April 2 around 9:40 p.m. on the 6200 block of S. Claiborne Avenue. The thief entered from the back of the restaurant with a handgun and robbed the cashier, then fled to the back.
A man committed four robberies April 5 between 8:10 a.m. and 9 a.m. He didn’t use a weapon during the robberies on the 800 block of Short Street and at the intersection of Dante and Freret streets; he implied possession of a weapon on the 8300 block of Zimple Street and he committed an armed robbery on the 1200 block of Joseph Street. He was seen driving a blue convertible car with a black top.
CAJACKING AND THEFT
A woman was forced out of her car at gunpoint during a carjacking on the 3600 block of State Street Drive. At 11:30 p.m., she pulled into her driveway while the two people pulled up behind her in a truck. A man got out of his car, told the victim to get out of her car, and drove away with her black 2006 Volkswagen Touareg (Louisiana license NHE057). His accomplice followed the victim’s vehicle in the truck. – from University Police reports
