DA declines to pursue charges against Rosevear

THE MAROON

The Orleans Parish district attorney’s office will not prosecute former Loyola student Dylan Rosevear, who was arrested and booked on charges of simple rape in October 2010.

Rosevear was cleared in Monday’s hearing after prosecutors refused charges. Assistant District Attorney Christopher Bowman said that there was insufficient evidence to move forward with the case.

Upon receiving word of the district attorney’s decision, Rosevear said he was “ecstatic” and “relieved” that the situation is finally coming to a close.

“Everyone who knows me knows that this is a crime that I would never do or would even be interested in doing,” Rosevear said.

According to the police report, the woman, who is not identified, woke up nude next to Rosevear the morning after a Sigma Chi Fraternity cocktail party both attended in October. The report said the woman did not remember anything from the previous night.

Rosevear, who was unable to finish his college education shortly following his arrest last year, returned to his home in Alaska. “I’ll be very honest, I was very, very angry. I was angry that the paper found out so quick, branded me very prematurely before any proceedings could take place.”

Upon his return home to Alaska, Rosevear said he experienced tremendous support from his local friends, as well as his family. He also mentioned his friends in New Orleans managed to be supportive as well, despite being thousands of miles away.

“They were there when I needed, but also understood that I needed a little bit of time to take care of myself,” Rosevear said.

Rosevear said he plans to return to school in the future to finish his degree.

“Now that this is over, I don’t need to be bitter about this anymore,” Rosevear said. “Dwelling on this will do me no good … If you dwell on this, it will drive you insane. I’m letting it go and moving on with my life.”
