Councilwoman plans to change marijuana laws
January 26, 2016
City councilwoman Susan Guidry has proposed several laws to lessen arrests on marijuana users and allow the police to work on more serious crimes.
Under the proposed municipal law change, a first-time offender could get off with a verbal warning. A second-time offender could get a written warning, then a $50 fine the third time. Any time after that it is a $100 fine.
Guidry’s plan is to let officers use their discretion on whether to issue a summons or make an arrest.
