The Wolf Pack soar past the Martin Methodist Redhawks
January 16, 2017
Loyola University New Orleans’ women’s basketball team secured another conference victory over the Martin Methodist Redhawks.
The last time these two teams matched up was in the Southern States Athletic Conference tournament championship, where the Wolf Pack came out on top as the tournament champions.
The Pack started slow in the beginning of tonight’s game, struggling to get settled in their offense. They trailed by six points in the first quarter, but later found their tempo and brought the lead up to as much as 15 points in the fourth quarter.
Meghan Temple, who has set the pace for the pack all year, finished with a double-double of 15 points and 11 rebounds.
Kylah Jones, senior guard, was able to penetrate through the defense and finish around the basket for a total of 21 points.
“I went into it with the mentality that we wouldn’t lose another game in conference this year,” Jones said.
The Wolf Pack are coming off of a tough road loss against rival, Bethel University on Friday, but were able to come out strong against the Redhawks.
Di’Mond Jackson, starting point guard, was able to push the ball up the court and tallied 10 points and seven assists. Kaila Anthony, freshman forward, and Zoie Miller, junior guard, came off the bench and added some extra energy for the team, and Anthony finished with 10 points and Miller led all scorers for the team with 22 points.
“It’s my role on this team to get my team going by bringing energy and being a great offensive and defensive presence on the floor,” Miller said.
With this win, the Wolf Pack are now 6-2 in conference play and 14-4 overall. The team will play at home on Jan. 19 as they take on William Carey College at 5:30pm.
