Loyola’s quidditch team, currently ranked 47th in the nation, will be competing in this year’s Quidditch World Cup.

On April 11, the team will be heading to Rock Hill, S.C. to take on their first round opponent, Northern Arizona University.

Etefia Umana, mass communication junior, said his team has been physically and mentally preparing for the different opponents they might face in this season’s World Cup.

“We’ve been practicing situational tactics for upcoming games. All the teams we play against have their own style, so we want to prepare for the different tasks we might face,” Umana said.

Members of the team like Sian Hairston, psychology junior, have noticed a slight change in the team’s chemistry. She said she is confident in the conditioning her team is currently going through.

“Right now we’re really in sync with each other. We’re working great together right now,” Hairston said.

Caitlin Page, history junior and the team’s captain, said they are also focused on upcoming position battles that will be key to the team’s success in their upcoming matches.

“Practice has gotten more intense. We’ve been working on more beater-chaser communication, and we are just trying to stay in a game mentality for the World Cup,” Page said.

The Quidditch World Cup is a two-day tournament that will start on April 11 and end on April 12.
