Theatre department seniors take the Loyola stage one last time
With the curtains closing to end the school year, four seniors will present their last university production in the senior directed One-Acts, free and open to the public

“Play” directed by Alex Kennon
Alex Kennon, theatre arts and journalism senior and the managing editor at The Maroon, will direct “Play,” the absurdist tale of a man, his wife and his mistress.
The production, written by Samuel Beckett, will take place in Lower Depths Theatre April 11 at 8 p.m. and April 12 at 2 p.m.
Kennon said that despite the challenges directing “Play,” the complexity and depth of emotion constructed by Beckett made this a rewarding choice.
“The great thing about Beckett — the abstract way in which he presents these situations allows the audience to develop their own interpretations. Regardless of what they take from it, they’ll be seeing a piece of theatre unlike anything else they’ve seen,” Kennon said.
“A Bench at the Edge” directed by Nicole Oria
Staring at an abyss, audience members can follow the account of two people: one near death and the other deciding if life is worth living in “A Bench at the Edge.”
Nicole Oria, theatre arts senior, will direct “A Bench at the Edge,” written by Luigi Jannuzzi, a play about the meeting of a man who has been in a coma at the edge of death for most of his life and a frustrated man contemplating life and death on a bench.
The production will be staged in Lower Depths Theatre on April 11 at 7 p.m. and April 12 at 3 p.m.
“Visitors from Philadelphia” directed by Leandra Garcia
What happens in Vegas may stay in Vegas, but in the “California Suite,” not all secrets can stay hidden.
Leandra Garcia, theatre arts senior, takes on “Visitors from Philadelphia,” one of the four playlets from Neil Simon’s “California Suite,” for her piece in the one-acts.
The play deals with a married, conservative middle-aged businessman from Philadelphia who has to a hide an unconscious prostitute from his wife.
The show will open in Lower Depths Theatre April 15 and 16 at 8 p.m.
“The Most Massive Woman Wins” directed by Alina Gordillo
While body shaming has recently drawn attention from the media, the topic of having a positive body image has been around for years.
Alina Gordillo, theatre arts senior, will direct Madeline George’s “The Most Massive Woman Wins,” an emotional piece about four women who discuss why they are at a liposuction clinic through a series of monologues.
The show will open in Lower Depths Theatre April 15 and 16 at 7 p.m.
