Earlier this week, San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick decided to sit during the national anthem before a preseason matchup against the Green Bay Packers on Friday, Aug. 26.

In an exclusive interview with NFL media Kaepernick had this to say: “I am not going to stand up to show pride to a flag for a country that oppresses black people and people of color. There are bodies in the street and people are getting away with murder.”

New Orleans Saints quarterback, Drew Brees, told ESPN that he wholeheartedly disagrees with the situation. Brees has been a life long supporter of the military.

“He (Colin Kaepernick) can speak out about a very important issue. But there’s plenty of other ways that you can do that in a peaceful manner that doesn’t involve being disrespectful to the American flag. The American flag is sacred,” said Brees.

Kaepernick said he will continue his protest against social injustice until he sees “significant justice.”
