One case of mumps confirmed

As of Friday, March 10 there has been one confirmed case of the mumps on campus.
According to an email sent by the Office of Emergency Management, mumps is a mild disease but has the ability to spread quickly. Student with possible symptoms are advised to go to the Student Health Center.
The email also reminds students that proof of immunity of mumps or proof of a full MMR vaccine is required for all students upon entering Loyola.
According to the Center for Disease Control, the vaccine for mumps is about 88 percent effective.
Students can minimize their risk by practicing good hand-washing techniques, covering their nose and mouth when sneezing or coughing and not eating from unwashed utensils.
