The Loyola men’s basketball team ends its 2013-2014 season on March 1, against Blue Mountain College.

With an overall record of 6-19 and a conference record of 5-13, the Wolf Pack is second to last in the National Athletics Intercollegiate Athletics men’s basketball division I standings.

Despite their record, the team is very optimistic going into their last two games.

Finance junior McCall Tomeny reflected on the season and the team’s attitude despite their losing record.

“Honestly, I know our record doesn’t show, but we go in to every game thinking we are going to win,” Tomeny said.

He said they had to deal with many injuries and rough patches that hindered them from playing to the best of their abilities, but that it did not effect their confidence.

“We don’t go in there looking to lose, we don’t look to roll over and we don’t look for anybody to feel sorry for us because our record is not that great,” Tomeny said.

Coach Michael Giorlando said he is very proud of the work his team has put in this season despite their losing record

“They have been working hard all year and fighting some adversary. I feel very proud that I am the coach of this team,” Giorlando said.

For the seniors on the team this will be their last time on the court. Younger members, like management freshman Jalen Gray, said the seniors have had an impact on and off the court.

“I have definitely gotten close to them. They are a big help with the team, the real bulk of our practice. I’ll definitely miss them next year,” Gray said.

Tomeny, who has played with these men for three years, said they have become his close friends and that it will be different playing without them.

“It’s kind of weird to see them going but we want to play hard and give them the best send-off we can,” Tomeny said.

Mass communication senior, Cameron Hill, said he is excited to be finishing his last year on the basketball team as well as to be graduating from Loyola.

Hill, while sad his time on Loyola’s court is coming to an end, said he feels blessed to have had the opportuninty to play for Loyola. And now, he just wants to enjoy himself.

“I am just going to approach these last few games like what they are – my last few games,” Hill said.
