Opening for the first time since its complete renovation, Cabra Hall will be available for room draw
Though room draw starts on April 3, housing applications are due March 5, and students will be notified of their quality points on March 11.
Director of residential life Craig Beebe said Cabra Hall is completely renovated.
The lobby will be updated with a new front desk, elevator, meeting space and a workout room. Suites are completely updated with a kitchen, semi-private bathrooms and larger windows. Suites now will house six students in two double rooms and two single rooms. Double rooms have been enlarged,” Beebe said.
Information has been sent to students so that they are aware of what it would be like living in Cabra through email and an album of digital renderings that have been posted to the Residential Life Facebook page. These pictures will continue to be updated over the next couple of months as progress is made, Beebe said.
In addition to Cabra Hall, all of Carrollton Hall and floors two through six of Buddig Hall will be open for room draw.
Biever Hall and floors seven through 12 of Buddig Hall are reserved for freshmen and thus will not be open for room draw.
All undergraduates are eligible to apply for room draw, even though you are only required to live on campus your freshman and sophomore years. The points process however puts your status in your favor.
“Points are awarded individually and are based on each student’s quality points. This is a product of the student’s GPA times their earned credits. This information can be found in LORA,” Beebe said.
The more classes you have taken, and the higher your GPA is the better chance you have of getting the room of your choice.
Emily Williams, finance sophomore, has not filled out her residence application yet, but is choosing to participate in room draw.
“I would like to preferably live in Carrollton or Cabra. I’ve read the articles and it sounds like it’s going to be pretty cool,” Williams said.
Bridget Kratz, Residential Life intern and economics senior, has been tasked with getting information to students about room draw.
“We’ve sat in Buddig, Biever, Carrollton and the Danna Center to bring awareness to students. Our goal is to make sure that all of the housing on campus is filled,” Kratz said.
Andrea Dousdebes, freshman biology and pre-med major, is participating in room draw because she would like to live on campus next year, but is unfamiliar with how the process works.
“I would like to live in Buddig next year. I imagine it will be a step up from Biever, my res hall this year. I am not a fan of the communal living style in Biever, but I have gotten used to it. I definitely look forward to sharing my bathroom with only 3 other people next year,” Dousebes said.
