A melodic mixture of unique genres of music blended together creates “island vibe roots rock” that is distinctly O.A.R.
Made up of a group of guys from Rockville, Md., O.A.R., or Of a Revolution, is traveling all over the country collecting avid college-aged followers.
O.A.R. brought its upbeat music to Tipitina’s on Oct. 17 for Loup Garou.
With hits such as “Hey Girl” and “Crazy Game of Poker,” the group is pushing its way to the top with a laid-back attitude, lots of hard work and dedication.
The songs are upbeat and catchy and have the potential to stay in your head all day.
O.A.R. has toured with John Mayer and has played with artists such as the Allman Brothers, 311, Ben Harper and Jack Johnson.
Accompanying the strong lead vocals of guitarist Marc Roberge are two guitarists, Benj Gerschman and Richard On, drummer Chris Culos, and saxophone player, Jerry DePizzo.
“We listen to so many kinds of music, like Bob Marley, Dave Matthews Band, Led Zeppelin and the Beastie Boys, and we appreciate everything. We emulate our favorite styles and play our interpretation of them into rock,” Culos said.
After being independent artists for years and recording three other albums, the band’s first major label release, “In Between Now and Then,” was produced with Lava Records and went on sale in the Spring of 2003.
Drummer Chris Culos said that signing with Lava Records was “a great opportunity and a smart business decision,” because it allowed O.A.R. to make videos and put their songs on the radio.
Their music sounds great both on the CD and in person.
With strong acoustics and backup musicians, the energetic songs blared through the bar into the early morning.
O.A.R. has taken a different approach to its new album, especially with the backing of Lava Records.
Practicing in the studio several times a day before recording the songs, “there was a lot of preparation that went into this CD,” Culos said.
“We just want to keep on making music and do it forever.”
