School of Nursing graduate ‘05 and registered nurse Ashley Rush joined the Louisiana Birth Outcomes Project Task Force. The LBOPTF works on various state topics on birth, such as developing evidence-based, comprehensive recommendations designed to improve statewide birth outcomes.
The LBOPTF collaborates with the Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals to help redirect state and federal funding towards practices that are known to reduce premature births and infant mortality rates. Rush formally worked in neonatal intensive care, an experience she will bring to her new position.
The state of Louisiana has a 15.4 percent premature birth rate, ranking the state of Louisiana 49th in the nation, something that Rush will be working to change.
