The Lady ‘Pack Keep on Rollin’ as Playoffs Begin
The Lady Wolfpack continued their remarkable run by knocking off Dillard University 73-59 in a hotly contested quarterfinal match-up at the Den. Loyola broke the game open with a 15-2 run to start the game, and Dillard never got within less than 6.
GCAC Coach of the Year Dobee Plaisance remarked, “This was a big game for us. Not only was it our first conference tourney win, Dillard is one of the hottest teams in the conference. We had our hands full with Dillard. (Head Coach) Barnes has done a great job with their program. Hats off to Dillard.”
Recently named GCAC Player and Freshman of the Year, Trenese Smith, psychology sophomore, did not disappoint. She poured in 20 first half points, and ended with 28 points and eight rebounds. Her sister Trenell Smith, psychology sophomore, had another excellent game with 13 points, nine boards, and three assists. Dani Holland added 10 points and five assists. Kiely Shorck chipped in with four threes and five rebounds.
The ‘Pack continued their hot shooting, going eight-for-16 on three-pointers in the first half, an outstanding percentage. They forced 22 turnovers against Dillard, as well. They had a tough time making free throws down the stretch, missing 10 out of 23 in the second half.
Plaisance said, “I was a little disappointed with the way we missed free throws down the stretch. I’m not sure if it was a lack of focus, but I know that we are capable of much better. As the games get bigger, we need to shoot it better from the line.”
