Starting Friday, Feb. 1, Residential Life will begin charging residents for being locked out of their rooms.
The policy was discussed earlier this month at the Carrollton Hall Residential Assistant First Floor Meeting.
The policy requires a resident to fill out a lock-out form at their residential hall front desk. An Office of Residential Life staff member will verify the resident’s identification and assist in getting into the room. The staff member will apply charges to the resident’s student account.
The first time a resident is locked out, assistance is free of charge. The second time the charge is $5, and the third is $10. Any additional lockouts will be charged $20.
Katie Cannella, area director of Carrollton Hall, said a Residential Assistant is called for a lockout four-seven times per duty shift.
The decision to implement the policy was efforts to “standardize response to lockouts, develop good habits before moving off campus and increase personal responsibility for personal space,” Cannella said.
