Mahoney’s traditional po’boys with a twist will keep you coming back for more. Their “Peacemaker”, a customer favorite, includes fried oysters, bacon, cheddar cheese and, of course, French bread. Chef/owner Ben Wicks loves the Fried Chicken Livers & Creole-slaw. The Cochon De’lait also comes highly recommended. “It’s pretty freaking incredible; I love it. I’m so full but I can’t stop eating it,” Michael Dunway said of the sandwich. “Of the post-Katrina po’ boy spots this one and Ignatious are head and shoulders above the rest,” Dunway says. If you’re up for a challenge, Wicks invites Loyola students to come eat a 30- inch po’boy of your choice. If you finish, you get your meal free, a free Mahoney’s t-shirt and your name on the wall forever.
