Political science senior Anthony Torres died in a single-car accident the morning of Aug. 28, according to a Loyola news release.
Torres, the son of class action lawyer Sidney Torres III and the grandson of St. Bernard Parish Clerk of Court Lena Torres, had been driving a Crown Victoria westbound on Interstate 10 before he crashed into a bridge column near the exit leading toward Irish Bayou, according to a news release from the New Orleans Police Department.
Col. Richard Baumy, a St. Bernard sheriff’s spokesman, added that Torres was an auxiliary officer with their office. His brother was Sidney Torres IV, the president of the SDT Waste and Debris Services that operates in St. Bernard Parish, the French Quarter and the Central Business District.
Torres took part in graduation ceremonies last May and was finishing his final credits this semester. He was part of an investment group hoping to bring back the revolving martini lounge at the top of the World Trade Center downtown, known as Top of the Mart, in 2001, before the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks dissuaded him.
He was 31.
