Environmental Science junior Jenny Simon recently received a $2,500 Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program grant from the Louisiana Sea grant College Program. Simon is collaborating with biology professor Frank Jordan, Ph.D., to study the effects of a 10,000-foot storm wall outside of the city on nearby fish and marine life. stor barrier is designed to prevent flooding seen in Chalmette and Eastern New Orleans seen during Hurricane Katrina. The results of the study may be used to modify the design of future storm barriers to protect coastal development and natural ecosystems.
