SOCHI, Russia (AP) – Cossack militia attacked Russia’s Pussy Riot punk group with horsewhips as the artists performed under a sign advertising the Olympics on Feb. 19.
The feminist group, which has called for a boycott of the Sochi Olympics due to Russian president, Vladimir Putin’s restriction on gay rights, has resurfaced for Russian authorities this week for the first time in nearly two years.
The Cossacks are an auxiliary police force that patrols the streets in the Krasnodar province, which includes the Winter Olympic host city.
