Finance senior Mike Lloyd was recovering at Charity Hospital this week after he was attacked early Wednesday morning. Lloyd allegedly was mugged just outside of Tulane’s Howard-Tilton Memorial Library, near Freret Street around 3:30 a.m. Shortly after the attack, Lloyd was able to walk to University Police where he was sent to Charity Hospital in an ambulance.
UP declined to comment on the incident. However, according to an e-mail that Biever Hall health assistant Ahmad Iqbal, management senior, sent early Wednesday morning to Associate Professor William Barnett, campus police notified him when Lloyd got to UP headquarters. Upon his arrival, Iqbal found Lloyd stabbed in the back and beaten badly.
As of press time Wednesday night, UP had yet to release any information to the student body. However information has circulated through e-mail correspondence between faculty members and students in the College of Business, in which Lloyd was studying.
According to this correspondence, Lloyd was stabbed in the rib cage just under his arm and no major organs were harmed. He also suffered an orbital fracture above his eye, which is expected to heal.
The Rev. Eddie Gros, S. J., visited Lloyd in the hospital and said Wenesday evening he expected Lloyd to return home the next day.
Lloyd did not wish to comment on the matter other than to thank everyone for their support and to let them know that he is doing fine.
