The sisters of Alpha Chi Omega are scheduled to hold The Purple Ribbon Benefit Concert & Silent Auction next Wednesday evening.
The benefit concert will be held at Rosy’s Jazz Hall at the corner of Valence & Tchoupitoulas.
This concert is Alpha Chi’s major philanthropic event for the fall semester.
Alpha Chi chose to organize a benefit concert this year.
Usually Alpha Chi organizes a yearly fundraising walk, State Day.
According to Corinne Knight, English writing junior, Alpha Chi felt that a benefit concert would attract more people and raise more money to support victims of domestic violence.
The sorority’s national philanthropy is to fight against domestic violence.
All proceeds from the concert will go to Crescent House of New Orleans, a battered women’s shelter, and the Alpha Chi Omega Foundation.
“We’re looking to use a unique way to fundraise,” junior music business major and event organizer Heather O’Brien said.
“We’re looking to bring awareness and change through music with this event,” O’Brien added.
The concert will mainly feature Loyola bands.
Johnny Sketch & the Dirty Notes with Theresa Andersson are scheduled to perform.
Almas Gemelas, Blair Gimma, Nuit, Genesis Gospel Choir, and Kelly Love Jones will also be featured.
Members of Sigma Alpha Iota will be lending their talent to the show as well.
There also will be a silent auction at the concert.
Concert attendees can bid on a range of services and products donated from local businesses.
Tickets will be available on the Danna Center porch through Nov. 12.
Tickets are $10. T-shirts are also $10.
Transportation to the event will be provided by the sorority.
