Greg Fontenot, economics senior, withdrew his candidacy at the Student Government Association debates March 6.
“My goal when announcing my candidacy to be the next SGA president was very clear. I wanted to make a positive impact on the student body because I know that I have grown so much in my four years here, and I felt that it was my time to give back to the students. As I have progressed through the process I have increasingly learned more about the job, the issues and myself. And after all this I have decided with my heart that the Student Government Association is not where I will be the best fit to help the student body,” said Fontenot.
Fontenot said no specific incident determined his resignation. He had discussed his candidacy with his parents – “the most influential people in my life” – the night before and decided that it was not the best choice. He admitted to personal reasons he did not wish to disclose to The Maroon.
Cade Cypriano, political science junior, continues to run unopposed. “I look forward to starting immediately to achieve the goals on my platform,” Cypriano said. “I’m excited about all of the possibilities of the next year. I would like to thank all of my supporters.”
