“SGA office suffers Spring Break theft”
The phantom strikes again.
An Apple computer was missing from Summer Zeimetz’s, Student Government Association director of communications and mass communication senior, desk in the SGA office. The computer was found missing on Thursday, March 20, by SGA director of finance Jonathan Rowan, finance sophomore.
“I think it’s degrading to think either a student, former student, faculty member, staff member, and/or anyone employed under contract by the university would deliberately take SGA property, paid for by student fees for their own selfish satisfaction,” said Rowan.
Last year, the director of communications’ computer was stolen. Since then, SGA has added security precautions such as a cable lock.
“There were graphite fragments found on the corner of the desk. This leads me to believe the cable was cut or sawed,” said Rowan.
There were files on Zeimetz’s computer to publicize the upcoming staff selections.
“Staff selections will be temporarily postponed until new designs can be created. I don’t want to speculate who was at fault. We are trying to move forward,” said SGA president Cade Cypriano, political science junior.
The value of the computer, which was purchased in August, is $1706.25,
“The theft takes away SGA funds that could have been use to fund future SGA campaigns for students,” said Rowan.
Summer Zeimetz could not be reached for comment at this time. The Maroon will follow this story as it develops.
“Everclear to headline Loup Garou, SGA passes resolutions”
In a recent senate meeting, the Student Government Association finalized details for the Loup Garou concert. The band Everclear will be the headlining act.
Rebirth and Blind Melon will be opening for Everclear. The event will be at the Howlin’ Wolf at 8 p.m. The event is free for seniors, five dollars for Loyola students and 15 dollars for the public.
New Orleans will be the first stop on Everclear’s tour.
Also, at the senate meeting, resolutions passed for free on-campus parking, for the removal of ashtrays near school buildings such as Bobet, and for professors to post syllabi or a book lists early so that students can buy their textbooks.
Passing resolutions means that SGA supports these plans, but it is uncertain as to which ideas will come into fruition, and when.
