Who is to say these stars do not reflect
our human lives on earth not far below,
that movements of our neighboring planets
cannot affect the patterns of our souls,
that minds and habits do not also spin
in time and space and rhythm across lives,
that turning circles facing these twelve signs
will not affect our cycles over time?
There’s science in these ancient teachings still,
though modern tools cannot yet quantify
how studies of the sky above relate
to our affairs like atoms typify
the empty spaces amid planets spun
around a central sun, not leaving much
but dust to block the astrological
effects of globes crossing constellations.
These days I blame the papers and the press
for simplifying it to the extent
that people don’t have reason to believe
in the potentials of astrology,
but with research into one’s natal chart
we start to see how rhythms of the stars
can stir the cycles of our lives and minds,
twirling through a universe in time.
