An April Fool’s prank pulled by the university received national attention as one of the top pranks of the year, according to Time.com.
During Mardi Gras, the theft of the letters “LOYO” from the Loyola sign sparked viral rumors that the letters were taken so that they could be rearranged to spell “YOLO,” and the university responded with a joke of its own.
On April 1, the Loyola Office of Public Affairs published a satirical article which stated that this year’s graduating class had donated aluminum-reinforced “YOLO” letters for permanent installment in front of the university.
The article saw mass circulation through social media, and soon the joke had extended far beyond the Loyola bubble and was included in Time.com’s article, “The Best April Fools’ Pranks of 2014.”
