John Bel Edwards proposed plan to protect LGBT employees
December 11, 2015
Newly elected governor John Bel Edwards has proposed a new initiative to protect LGBT employees in Louisiana from discrimination.
People who identify as gay can be fired from there job in Louisiana. Edwards’ plan would cover state workers and government contractors. However, no timeline has be announced for the completion.
Edwards will be sworn into office on Jan. 11 and he is said to sign a document after he takes office. Gov. Bobby Jindal and Mike Foster declined to offer these protections in their time as governor. Conservative christian group The Louisiana Family Forum has said that this plan “jeopardizes” their religious liberties. Gene Mills, the head of the organization has successfully lobbied against non discrimination polices.
