Second off-campus sexual assault reported
September 5, 2019
For the second time in two weeks, the Loyola University Police Department is warning students to be on the lookout after an off-campus sexual assault occurred early in the morning on Thursday, Sept. 5. The details of the crime are remarkably similar to an Aug. 24 assault that was also initiated at The Boot Bar and Grill.
According to the email sent by LUPD, the victim woke on the railroad tracks near South Carrollton Ave. and Leake Ave. near Cooter Browns between 1:30 and 3:30 a.m. and had injuries.
She said that she had been approached earlier that evening at The Boot by a man she did not know matching the description of the previous assault’s subject and claiming to be a student. She was then taken to an unknown location where she was sexually assaulted.
Both women were approached at The Boot, taken to a separate location and sexually assaulted.
The man in both incidents was described as having light complexion, average height and weight, having short, curly brown hair and speaking English with a Spanish accent.
According to the email, several students have come forward to LUPD stating that, while at The Boot, their drinks had been drugged. Both LUPD and Tulane’s police department are working with New Orleans Police Department in the ongoing investigations.
The email advised students attending The Boot to stay with a friend and never leave drinks unattended.
