University Sports Complex prepared to reopen after storm damage
The Loyola athletics department announced today that University Sports Complex will reopen with limited facilities after it sustained damage from Hurricane Ida.
This change comes as students prepare to return to campus following a three week absence as result of the Category 4 storm, which damaged several buildings on campus and left the city without power.
A leak in the roof left the sports complex with major damage, according to an email from Director of Athletics Brett Simpson.
Due to this, the basketball courts and pool are unavailable for the fall semester.
On the bright side, Simpson said that while students were away, the building was closed for immediate repairs.
Students, faculty, and other members can return to the gym on Monday, Sept. 10 at its regular hours to use the locker rooms, weight rooms, and exercise rooms.
Simpson ended the email by thanking the physical plant team who he said, “worked tirelessly to allow us to reopen so soon.”
