A pro-Palestinian protest began on Freret Street and McAlister Dr. in Uptown New Orleans at 12:30 p.m., on Thursday October 26. Between Tulane and Loyola campuses, several hundred people gathered to protest in support of Palestine – quickly drawing counter protestors to the scene across the street. Tulane administrators kept the counter-protesters from crossing Freret street while Loyola, Tulane, New Orleans, and Louisiana State Police stood back and monitored the situation.
The protest turned violent briefly when counter-protestors threw an Israeli flag into the back of a pickup truck being driven by pro-Palestinian protestors. The truck turned around while teenagers stood on the back – one waving a Palestinian flag and the other attempting to deface the Israeli flag. The pro-Israel counter protestors responded by attacking the truck and the teenagers and counter-protesters stole the trucks key fob and left with it, forcing them to park the truck on the side of the road.
One pro-Palestianian protester has been arrested, however he has yet to be booked with any charges according to Chief Todd Warren.
Traffic was halted on Freret St. from Calhoun St. to Broadway Ave., but has since reopened as of 2:32, according to Loyola.

It is good to see the strong showing of solidarity with the Palestinian people. Are Israel supporters protesting because Palestinians are not being killed as quickly as they would like? Counter-protesting Palestinians by waving Israel flags, while Israel is committing genocide against Palestinians, is disgusting.

The violence the pro Palestine protestors exhibited was a disgraceful. We are removing our children from Tulane.
