After a week in which biology/pre-med freshman Lindsay Diak was announced NAIA Region XIII Player of the Week, nothing seemed to go right for the Wolfpack.
“I really wasn’t expecting it but was so honored when coach told me. So many other players from other teams were deserving, and to get it really made all the hard work worth it,” Diak said on receiving the award.
The Wolfpack’s game against Freed-Hardeman in Jackson, Miss. was cancelled Oct. 10 due to inclement weather.
On Oct. 13, Loyola traveled to Gulfport, Miss., to play William Carey College.
Audia Sullivan from William Carey scored three of the five goals in the match and assisted on one of the others to almost single-handedly dominate the Wolfpack and lead Carey to a 5-0 victory.
The ‘Pack then came home to play Belhaven College at NOSA field. The first half was extremely close, ending in 0-0 tie with aggressive play coming from both sides of the field.
“The scores don’t accurately display the way the game went. We’ve been playing close games that seem to just fall apart on us at the end,” criminal justice freshman Amy Budahn said.
That is exactly what happened to the Wolfpack in the second half when Stephanie Chancellor broke a 0-0 tie in the 65th minute. The Blazers would score four more goals before the end of the game, including two in the final four minutes.
The ‘Pack’s rough week continued on Tuesday against Louisiana College, who they easily defeated earlier in the season. Playing without many of their starters, the Wolfpack opened the game with two goals in the first 15 minutes.
Loyola’s first score came in the 12th minute on a goal scored by general studies sophomore Kelly Gould. The Wolfpack would add another goal 30 seconds later, when music sophomore Michaela Bono came down the field untouched and drove the ball in the net.
The first half ended with the Wolfpack leading, 2-1, but the lead disappeared as the second half opened when the Wildcats scored four unanswered goals to upset the ‘Pack.
Louisiana College tied the match just after halftime, when they scored off an assist in the 47th minute. The Wildcats would add the next two goals in the 51st and 67th minutes.
The Wildcats scored once more before the final whistle, ending the game 5-2. Louisiana College won its first game of the season as Loyola fell to 3-10-1.
The Wolfpack will travel to Gulf Coast Athletic Conference rival Spring Hill this Saturday in a rematch of an 3-0 lost earlier in the season.
