Get ready to get rejected. This Tuesday night at 8 p.m., the University Programming Board is hostings sponsoring a Res- Quad screening of the All-American Rejects’ “Too Bad for Hell!” DVD.
The noveau garage rock band toured this past spring, and on its their second-to-last show, filmed this DVD.
Tulsa, Okla., provided the setting, and definite hometown excitement permeated the show’s atmosphere.
Even if you’re not a fan of the sometimes-generic sounds of this trendy genre or think it’s a tad premature for a band like the All-American Rejects to put out a DVD, its aesthetic qualities make for a worthy show.
The almost guerilla style of filming will get your attention and keep it; there are many different camera angles on the band and crowd.
This lends itself to a more intimate viewing than most over-produced concert DVDs on the market.
Plus, lead singer Tyson Ritter looks like a spunky mixture of Tom Welling (The WB’s “Smallville”) and Jared Leto (Cameron Diaz’s ex).
Be sure to keep a vigilant eye out for the money shots of security guards putting down the ubiquitous crowd surfers.
It’s a mini show – only seven songs, in the set plus a two-song encore, but the All-American Rejects execute it with confidence and don’t take themselves too seriously.
Their unabashed determination to give their hometown fans a rock show shines through in every song, but especially during “Happy Endings,” their summer hit “Swing Swing,” and their last song, appropriately entitled “The Last Song.”
There will be popcorn and refreshments provided by UPB, and you’ll probably be able to score some All-American Rejects goodies.
So if you’re around campus on Tuesday, take a study break with the band All-American Rejects.
