If you’re looking for some excitement this Halloween, consider making a visit to the House of Shock.
You may even live to tell about it.
With the reputation this haunted house has amassed over the past few years, the experience is sure to be anything but forgettable.
What stories you’ll be able to tell!
The House of Shock has been criticized by the Catholic League and others.
It has been pegged as a place of satanic worship and gross anti-religious displays.
The creators say all they want to do is scare people silly.
Since its 1992 debut in a backyard, the House of Shock has made a few improvements.
It now inhabits a 17,000 square foot warehouse under the Huey P. Long Bridge, with a second warehouse touting a Coney Island-style dark ride.
The haunted house opens its doors at 8 p.m. tonight (tickets go on sale at 7 p.m.), and you can expect to be entertained even though there may be a wait.
There are not one, but two, performance stages, featuring two shows with pyrotechnics nightly along with, as their website advertises, “strange and unusual acts from all over the world.”
You can also watch “Evil Dead” on the TV screens.
There are carnival-style games, a gift shop, food (if you’ve got faith in your stomach), and a full bar.
What’s inside the House of Shock itself is a surprise; just expect to be a part of the action.
The haunted house will be open Saturday, as well, for those with plans on Halloween night.
The warehouse is located at 4951 River Road.
Tickets are $15, which doesn’t seem quite so expensive when you think of it as two OR dinners.
And if the House of Shock still seems too pricey, just call to mind the old adage.
You pay for quality – and for getting the bejeezus scared out of you.
