The Loyola women’s volleyball team dropped its second match of Gulf Coast Athletic Conference play at Dillard University on Tuesday.

The ‘Pack (15-10, 5-2) lost in four games, 33-31, 30-23, 23-30, 31-29. The first and fourth games both were tied at 29 before Dillard won them.

“It was a close game, and we got a little tentative at the end,” coach Tommy Harold said. “It just takes getting used to each other and playing together. Maybe home court advantage gives them those two points.”

In the defeat, international business junior Lauren Landry and elementary education senior Amanda Gilliard each had 20 kills; history senior Suzi Ruiz added 69 assists.

The loss puts the ‘Pack in a tie for second place in the GCAC standings with Dillard, who is ranked second in Region XIII. Spring Hill, with a 5-1 conference record, is in first place in the conference and the region. The Badgers face Dillard and Belhaven this week.

The Wolfpack split four matches at the Faulkner University tournament last weekend in Montgomery, Ala.

Loyola defeated Shorter College, 30-15, 30-14, 30-18, and host Faulkner, 30-27, 16-30, 30-27, 30-28. The ‘Pack fell to Martin Methodist College, 30-10, 30-24, 30-20. Georgia Southwestern, the third-place team in the region, defeated the Wolfpack, 30-28, 33-31, 27-30, 24-30, 15-9.

Harold said that Loyola might play Georgia Southwestern in the regional tournament.

“They played great against us,” he said. “We have a bull’s-eye on our chest. Everyone is giving us its ‘A’ game; so we have to be able to match it. If you have a little lapse in a close game, it can be over before you know it.”

The ‘Pack plays its final GCAC match tomorrow in the Den against Belhaven College at 7 p.m. It is also the last regular-season home match of the season. The GCAC Tournament begins on Nov. 14.
