In a season where a team sets school records in wins, win streaks, and national poll positioning, claiming their first ever regular season conference title on the way, several postseason accolades are headed that team’s way.
That’s no different with the No. 21 Wolfpack women. They finished the regular season 22-8, 16-2 in the GCAC and on a 14-game win streak. That winning streak went to 15 games when Loyola defeated Dillard in the GCAC Tournament Quarterfinals on Wednesday night. They also extended their home winning streak to 16 games, not having lost in The Den for over one calendar year.
But before the GCAC quarterfinal game started, the team learned the spoils that their victories had afforded them.
The Wolfpack’s Trenese Smith, Trenell Smith, and Kiely Schork were named All-GCAC. Trenese was also named the GCAC’s Player of the Year and Freshman of the Year and Loyola head coach Dobee Plaisance was tabbed the GCAC’s Coach of the Year. It is the first award for Plaisance in her 12th year as Loyola head coach.
LSU-Shreveport’s Edie Leonards grabbed Newcomer of the Year, the only individual award not taken by a Wolfpack player.
Trenese Smith, psychology sophomore, averaged 16.8 points per game this season and scored ten or more points in 21 straight games, including eleven games over 20 points and three games with 30 or more.
Trenell Smith, psychology sophomore, averages 13.3 points per game while leading the Wolfpack with 3.4 assists per game.
Schork, mass communication senior, averages 11.7 points per game. This is her second straight All-Conference selection.
