The Lady Wolfpack, currently No. 21 in the country, achieved a pair of historical benchmarks with a 77-69 win in Hattiesburg over William Carey on Feb. 24.
The win, powered by the guns-blazing scoring of psychology sophomore Trenese Smith (30 points on nine-of-16 shooting, five-of-8 from three-point land), was the squad’s 22nd of the season and finalized its conference record at 16-2, both all-time bests for the program. Previously, Loyola had not been able to win more than 21 games in a season (achieved both in 2003-04 and 2004-05).
Psychology sophomore Trenell Smith (11 points, seven rebounds, five assists), criminal justice graduate Dani Holland (game-high 10 rebounds), and mass communication senior Kiely Schork (11 points) all supported Trenese Smith’s bid in bagging the squad’s 14th straight win, also one of the longest streaks in all of collegiate basketball in the United States.
The Lady Wolfpack will host a GCAC tournament game on Feb. 28 at The Den. No time or opponent has been set yet.
