Kent State University didn’t get its new provost from Loyola University.
Walter Harris, provost and vice president for academic affairs, withdrew his nomination from consideration for the position several weeks ago.
“Kent State is a very fine research institution. My withdrawal from that search had to do strictly with professional reasons,” Harris said in an e-mail to The Maroon. Harris made his decision after “a very exciting and successful visit with the campus community there.”
“I am told by both the search firm and the campus that I was a highly attractive candidate for Kent State. In fact, sources tell me that at the time of my withdrawal, I was the leading candidate among a very strong pool of finalists,” Harris said.
Harris was one of four candidates being considered for the job.
