The heart-wrenching documentary, “The Tillman Story,” narrated by Josh Brolin (“No Country for Old Men”), follows the controversial death and government cover up of celebrated NFL-star turned Army Ranger Pat Tillman, killed in the line of duty in Afghanistan. Amir Bar-Lev’s touching film is a powerful indictment of a deceptive military, but more importantly a portrayal of a true hero of a human being. This worthy subject deserves more than the soft bonus features found on the DVD. A-
The best thing going for “The Virginity Hit,” a wannabe cross between “American Pie” and “Superbad,” is the recognition of this pseudo-documentary filmed in the New Orleans area. As high school student Matt (Zach Pearlman) tries to lose his virginity, more and more outrageous events occur. Unfortunately, they are more painful than funny. The DVD contains bonus features funnier than the actual film. C
“A Woman, A Gun and a Noodle Shop,” the latest period piece from martial artist dramateur Zhang Yimou (“Hero,” “House of Flying Daggers”) offers up spectacular visuals of feudal China presented on Blu-ray. Unfortunately, this odd remake of the Coen Brothers hard-boiled “Blood Simple” falls flat in the story presentation department. The Blu-ray has a great deal of behind-the-scenes bonus features documenting how Yimou got some of those amazing shots. C
