Applications for the spring 2010 budget allocations to student leaders of chartered organizations interested in receiving funds are available on the Student Government Association Web site. There are two remaining informational meetings in the Organization Hub in the Danna Student Center – Jan. 26 at 1 p.m. and Jan. 28 at 1 p.m. Packets are due Jan. 29 at 6 p.m. Students can e-mail electronic copies to [email protected] and drop off printed packets to the SGA executive office, located in the basement of the Danna Center. Allocation results will be posted and e-mailed out Feb. 1 at 11 p.m. The appeals meeting will be Feb. 2 at 1 p.m. in the Organization Hub. Appeals are due Feb. 5 at 6 p.m. and will be posted and e-mailed out Feb. 11 at 11 p.m.
Professor recieves Dux award
Alfred Lawrence Lorenz, an A. Louis Read Distinguished Professor in Communications, was awarded the 2009 Dux Academicus Award Jan. 15 by university president the Rev. Kevin Wildes, S.J., at the President’s Convocation. Lorenz has taught at Loyola since 1981. He was chair of the former Department of Communications and founding dean of the College of Social Sciences. He returned from sabbatical at the beginning of this semester. His areas of expertise include reporting and writing, communication ethics and history of American journalism.
College of Law offers tax help
Loyola University College of Law will offer the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program this year to give free tax preparation help to those with low to moderate incomes. Sessions will be from Jan. 23 to April 12. Hours are Saturdays, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., and Mondays and Thursdays, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the VITA office. The office is located on the Broadway campus, 501 Pine St., Room 202. Sessions will not be available Feb. 13, Feb. 15 and April 3. Those attending should bring identification, Social Security cards for each member of the household, tax returns and all other tax documents, including W-2 forms, 1099 forms and Social Security statements.
SGA official drops out of school
Michael Jackson, Student Government Association’s director of public relations/communications, has left Loyola for the semester. According to Sarah Cooper, SGA president and marketing junior, they are unsure of Jackson’s return. Andrea Aleman, biology freshman, took Jackson’s place. I interviewed before the break and a few days later, I was notified that I was selected,” Aleman said in an e-mail.
