Loyola started off the GCAC tournament with a thrilling, overtime win against Spring Hill. The ‘Pack won 57-56 after a 3-pointer with 17 seconds remaining in overtime by Dani Holland, criminal justice sophomore.
Several players stepped up their games to help the ‘Pack advance to the semifinals of the GCAC tournament. The ‘Pack was led by sociology senior guard Joelle Bordelon’s season-high 25 points. Bordelon hit nine of 14 shots from the field, including four of six from the 3-point line. Forward Holland and finance sophomore center Marjorie Bilinksi each contributed 13 points and eight rebounds to the ‘Pack’s cause. General studies freshman guard Christine Mainguy led the ‘Pack in rebounding, grabbing nine boards for the game.
Loyola’s run at the conference championship ended with an 82-73 loss to the Mobile Rams.
Despite the loss, Bordelon put in another 25-point effort. Again she shot well from the field, connecting on 10 of 16 shot attempts. General studies sophomore guard Kiely Schork and Bilinski each scored 16.
Bordelon received All-GCAC tournament honors. She shot 63.3 percent from the field and 50 percent from 3-point range. Bordelon was 7-of-7 from the free throw line during the tournament.
The team set a school record with four players named to the All-GCAC team. The honor was bestowed on Bordelon, Bilinski, Holland and Schork.
Bordelon averages 11.5 points a game and 7.8 assists, which is second in the nation. Bilinski leads the team with 14.7 points per game. Holland averages 12.9 points and 8.9 rebounds. Schork leads the NAIA in 3-pointers made.
In the final poll of the year, the ‘Pack received 10 votes.
