One man band has big plans, goals

New Orleans band Better Off Dead’s temptation building, alcohol influenced, hypnotic club anthems will grab, shake and glue listeners to the dance floor.

At night, Better Off Dead’s music awakens the spirit and livens the party.  But by morning, fans are dying at the though of impending hangovers and exhaustion.

Lee Lopez, the one-man mind behind the music, mesmerizes listeners with the band’s electronica, dance-club sound. Lopez began writing, recording and creating the band’s brand of magic about four months ago, and has not looked back.

Born in Hathaway, La., Lopez was eager to reach beyond the borders of small-town life.  He grew up listening to country music, and later ventured to pop, but found his true calling in love-sick dance music.

“Getting out of that small town still inspires me to this day,” he said.

He credits his lyrics to day-to-day happenings, girl problems, his job and drinking with his buddies.

“The way I write my songs, I make sure everyone can take something from it,” he said. “You can’t pin point any particular lyric and make it mean the same thing to everyone.  It’s what you make from it that counts.”

He prides himself on making his music unique, yet relatable to his fans.

“I get calls from my fans all the time saying how they stayed up all night partying to my music,” he said.

Lopez’s biggest aspiration is to become one of the greats. He believes if you want to stay small, you are doing it all wrong.

“I want this more than I want to win the lottery, and I would do anything and everything to make it big,” he said.

For Lopez, music is life.  “It is my constant, reliable support when something in life, whether good or bad, changes,” Lopez said.

He loves to perform; no matter if it is for a crowd of seven or 700. For him there is no experience like being on that stage, Lopez said.

Better Off Dead has opened for Hollywood Undead and Meriweather, and at  the House of Blues.  Lopez said he’s excited for his upcoming performances and his album to drop sometime in April.

According to Lopez, his biggest inspirations were “love, music, girls and life.”

If listeners don’t check this guy out, they are probably better off dead.
