Tulane to hold Clinton forum
Students interested in participating in a forum with former President Clinton must sign up by Mon, Feb. 18. The Clinton Global Initiative, an organization that encourages college students to act on current social issues, will hold its inaugural meeting March 14 to 16 at Tulane. Applications are at cgiu.org. There is no cost to attend. In panels and groups, students will discuss energy and climate change, global health, poverty alleviation and human rights.
Jesuits elect new Superior General
The Jesuits’ 35th General Congregation elected the Rev. Adolfo Nicolas, S.J., last month as the Superior General of the Society of Jesus. Nicolas, a native of Spain, has worked in Asia since 1960 as a professor and key leader in the Jesuit community. Nicolas also spent three years working with Philippine and Asian immigrants in Tokyo. He succeeded the Rev. Peter-Hans Kolvenbach, S.J.
Law school to assist with tax prep
Loyola’s Law School is offering tax preparation assistance for people with low to modest incomes again this year. The sessions follow the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program, which was designed by the Internal Revenue Service. They will all be held at Loyola from Feb. 9 to April 12. Hours are Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., and Mondays and Thursdays from 5 to 7 p.m. Participants should bring identification, Social Security cards, tax returns and tax documents – including W-2 forms, 1099 forms and Social Security statements.
