For my junior year, I moved off campus, away from the care and safety Residential Life provides in order to fend for myself. It was a growing experience, for sure. Having my own room and my own place to cook were a few perks. I learned to manage time better at school, because going home late on my bike was awful. I did have some roommate difficulties during the first half of my lease, and after that didn’t work out, I ended up finding the best roommate I could’ve asked for on craigslist for the second half.

In this issue, we focus on housing topics like living on campus (page 12), decorating (page 6) and what it’s like for Loyola students to live on the campus of the University of New Orleans (page 7). We even explore Couchsurfing – a worldwide network that allows people to stay at a person’s home for free (page 8). Seems sketchy, I know, but after “surfing” for the first time, I realized it’s a way to exchange ideas, meet friends and get to know the place you’re visiting through the eyes of the locals.
