A new ID design will be introduced in the fall and issued to incoming students.
“I remember freshmen year; all of us (high school) friends were sharing our university IDs and I was embarrassed to show my Loyola ID,” said Tom Martenstein, history sophomore and an SGA senator for the College of Humanities and Natural Sciences.
Martenstein proposed a campus-wide initiative in spring 2009 for a new design of the student and faculty/staff IDs.
“Loyola Express card shouts: Hop on Loyola’s Express! We’ll take you to the Danna Center,” he said.
He said he doesn’t like the card because it is unprofessional.
“Have you seen Tulane’s ID? It is way more professional than ours,” Martenstein said.
Students had varying responses to the current ID design.
“It’s a little boring and (the new design) looks interesting,” said Jillian Romagosa, mass communication freshman.
Some students are indifferent to the ID’s design.
“It doesn’t matter — student IDs are not a fashion accessory. Is that why they are raising our tuition?” said economics junior Robert Schuldt.
Kat Friese, music industry junior, agreed.
“The only person who sees my ID is the Orleans Room lady,” she said.
A picture of the Horseshoe will be the background for the new student ID. The picture, however, has “parked cars that look bad,” Martenstein said.
He explained that Publications does not have a picture of the Horseshoe without the cars.
“This ID is one step toward a better representation of our school,”
Martenstein added that it is too late to change the design for the fall, but the photo may be changed in the future.
